Elon Musk's xAI Sues Apple and OpenAI Over App Store Rankings
Elon Musk's xAI filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI on Monday, accusing the companies of behaving like monopolies and claiming Apple deprioritized ChatGPT rivals like Grok in the App Store. "This is a tale of two monopolists joining forces to ensure their continued dominance in a world rapidly driven by the most powerful technology humanity has ever created: artificial intelligence," the lawsuit alleges. "Working in tandem, Defendants Apple and OpenAI have locked up markets to maintain their monopolies and prevent innovators like X and xAI from competing." Grok is currently ranked third in the App Store for free productivity apps--behind only ChatGPT and Gmail. The'uncensored' chatbot is also integrated into Musk's social platform X, which is the number one free news app in the App Store.

They come ahead of social media apps including TikTok and Meta's Threads, as well as AI chatbot sensation ChatGPT, which released an app last year. As 2024 comes to a close, Apple is unveiling the most downloaded apps and games of the year in the UK,' the tech giant said in a statement.

iPhone users say Apple's iOS 18.2 update is RUINING their battery life - here's what to do if your device is affected
Apple Intelligence is essentially a snazzy brand name for Apple's new-found focus on AI, triggered by the huge success of the ChatGPT. Here's a look at some of the best features of Apple Intelligence, which comes to the UK via the new iOS 18.2 operating system. Surely the biggest part of Apple Intelligence is the integration of OpenAI's hugely popular chatbot ChatGPT with Siri, Apple's in-built virtual assistant. With better'language-understanding capabilities' enabled by ChatGPT, Siri will help you across multiple apps and'accelerate everyday tasks', Apple said. You'll be able to press and hold the side button to activate Siri as normal, but with ChatGPT behind it Siri will be able to'answer thousands of questions about how to do something' that it couldn't before.
Update your iPhone NOW: Apple releases iOS 18.1.1 with 'important security fixes' - here's how to install it on your device
Apple has released its latest iOS 18.1.1 In a post on its security website, the tech giant says the update fixes two vulnerabilities which have already been'actively exploited' by hackers. According to security experts, these bugs could be used to remotely compromise a user's device and even gain access to their online accounts. While the security weaknesses have only been exploited on Mac so far, waiting too long could leave your iPhone vulnerable to being hacked. Michael Covington, VP of strategy at cybersecurity firm Jamf, says: 'The fixes provided by Apple introduce stronger checks to detect and prevent malicious activity, as well as improve how devices manage and track data during web browsing.

Urgent warning to iPhone users over troubling 'glitch' that exposes browser history when you hold your device a certain way
An embarrassing glitch has reemerged on iPhone, judging from complaints online -- a bug that dredges up old web searches many would like to keep private. Some Apple users are discovering that their devices are displaying old adult content at unwanted moments, despite their best efforts to clear their browser history, tabs and cookies, even after making sure to view risqué content in'incognito mode' only. 'I have a fairly new iPhone and this is happening,' one Apple fan confessed. 'Old porn vid stuck in Firefox preview mode, only happens in landscape [mode] though.' Another user told horror stories of their iPhone displaying old adult content while'people have been looking over my shoulder as I am showing them something.'

iPhone users urged to download iOS 18.1 TODAY or risk being hacked - here's how to get latest software
Apple is set to launch its new iOS 18.1 that will include the long-awaited AI feature and several security fixes for iPhones running on the previous version. CEO Tim Cook has touted Apple Intelligence as'a new chapter of innovation,' focusing on'generative' AI models that enable users to create text or images from prompts. The system will have the ability to create'Genmojis,' new emoji characters based on text prompts in iMessage, edit photos and include a revamped Siri with better conversational skills. The new iOS 18 system is set to hit smartphones at 1pm ET, but only the iPhone 16 family and high-end 15 devices support Apple Intelligence. There is also a waitlist for the AI feature and users can claim their spot after downloading the update.
iPhone users baffled by 'scary' feature that suggests they check in with ex-lovers and dead relatives
Check In, released in Apple's iOS 17 in 2023, is a messaging and location-tracking service that allows users to notify contacts when they have arrived at a destination. However, the feature makes suggestions on who users should alert and people have been left baffled by the recommendations. Users have shared these bizarre experiences on social media, with one woman saying she received a prompt to alert her deceased mother and another was sent a notification with her ex-husband's name - they divorced four years ago. A TikToker recently shared a video about the feature after repeatedly being prompted to check in with his boss. Apple released Check In last year, but users have reported only seeing the Siri suggestions over the last few months.
